Hello, My master bedroom is 13Γ—16 and I just had hardwood floors installed. I would like to purchase an area rug for the room. I have a king size bed and was thinking about an 8Γ—10 rug for under the bed. After placing all the furniture back in the room I discover my desk chair legs would be in the way of the rug. (no other place to put desk). There are a few rules about pairing an area rug in a space with a couch. An area rug should be wider than the couch with a foot of space on either side showing. An area rug should have a minimum of 18" of space around where the bare floor shows. The front legs of the couch and any accent chairs should be on the rug. A large rug provides the right proportion for a generously sized table. If you have a big enough dining area, consider leaving eight inches of the floor exposed around the rug to anchor the space. In the case of round coffee tables, you need to measure its diameter. If you have a 3’ wide coffee table you could get a 4’x6’ square or 5’ round rug. But for wider tables such as

Put in middle of floor about a foot from the sofa with the ottoman in the center of that. It’s too small. It should be long enough to extend on either side of your sectional by 8-12” (more if you plan on adding chairs). For most sectionals minimum 8’x10’ rug or 9’x12’ depending on the length of the sectional.

I had brought home a larger 8Γ—10 size in a different pattern and couldn’t get that large of a rug to work right in my smaller space. I ended up going with the pattern I loved, the 5Γ—7. My sofa and loveseat face each other, but while both are off the rug by about 3 inches, the length of the rug is longer than my sofas at least. me0M. 371 406 430 431 246 167 151 369 487
